Our Sta. Rita Hills vineyards are known for their rocky terrain and super steep slopes. This cool–climate area, is heavily influenced by the proximity of the Pacific Ocean and is known for producing world-class Pinot Noir. The east-west aspect of the Santa Rosa and Santa Rita Hills is ideal for allowing cool ocean fog to flow through the Santa Ynez River Valley. The soil is void of any nutrients and instead is chalky with marine and volcanic soils making the vines struggle to produce resulting in tiny intense clusters that produce wines with distinctive terroir driven flavor profiles unlike any other Pinot Noir. Our unique fermentation methods include whole berry in French Cooperage puncheons, and a percentage of whole berry and whole cluster fermentations in Stainless tanks which adds further complexity to the wines. Recent Critical Acclaim for our Vineyard Designated Pinot Noir from Sta. Rita Hills
Chateau Boswell Rita’s Crown Vineyard 2016 “This fabulous effort boasts a medium ruby color as well rocking notes of black cherries, mulling spices, raspberries, and dried flowers. Absolutely seamless on the palate, with terrific intensity and length, it just glides across the palate. Perfectly balanced, it’s a thrilling bottle of Pinot Noir from this singular region. Don’t miss it!” 97 Points Jeb Dunnuck
Chateau Boswell Radian Vineyard 2016 "Chateau Boswell and winemaker Phillipe Melka (who’s also assisted by Allison Nunnikhoven) have produced some brilliant wines in 2016, starting with the 2016 Pinot Noir Radian Vineyard, which comes from the Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County. This rich, powerful wine has obvious marine notes and salinity in its darker berry fruits, lavender, and forest floor aromas and flavors. Seeing just a touch of stems and 16 months in 65% new French oak, drink this medium to full-bodied, incredibly layered Pinot Noir any time over the coming decade or more.” 96 Points Jeb Dunnuck
Chateau Boswell Bentrock Vineyard 2016 : “…more delicate and ethereal, with a terrific sense of elegance in its red fruits, spice, and obvious marine influence and salinity. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully balanced, it’s all about finesse, complexity, and nuance, yet as with all the releases from Chateau Boswell, has beautiful fruit.” 95+ Points Jeb Dunnuck
